Diploma in English

The need of the English as a Second Language in Sri Lanka, to function as a learning hub for the world, is becoming a trend that requires much attention in the field of Second Language learning. In this scope, a qualitative research that was done by the Temporary Lecturer of English at NIIBS, Mrs. W.M.S. Niroshika, created a platform: “Diploma in English” for both Local and International groups with a modern and requirement of English based curricular.

This is solely based on what is expected in ‘Teaching English as a Second Language’ by those who are planning not only to extend their future career as English Teachers and those who are already in the field of teaching, and also for those who need English for professional purposes.

Entry requirements

Applicants must have a minimum of three Simple Passes (S) at the G.C.E. Advanced Level (A/L) examination (one sitting) in any stream or Dammachariya completion for Monks and Nuns or Equivalent for the above for Foreign Students or Academic qualifications equal to Sri Lankan G.C.E. Advanced Level (A/L) accepted by the senate of the institute.

Course Fee

The course fee is presently Rs. 60,000 for local Students and USD 270 for Foreign Students. This all-inclusive fee is charged to cover lectures, tutorials, and examinations, as well as access to computer laboratory facilities and the library.

The fees should be credited to, Account No 0207 1000 0760 of the Sampath Bank in favour of Nāgānanda International Institute for Buddhist Studies, at the Sampath Bank Makola Branch or any branch of Sampath Bank. Normally, fees paid will not be refunded. However, requests for refund of fees may be considered if made before the expiry of one week from the date of commencement of lectures for each semester.
