3rd Biennial International Conference of the Indian Association for South Asian Studies (IASAS)

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the Nāgānanda International Institute for Buddhist Studies (NIIBS), in collaboration with the Indian Association for South Asian Studies (IASAS), invites scholars, researchers, and academic professionals to submit papers for its upcoming international conference. This prestigious academic gathering seeks to provide a critical platform for interdisciplinary dialogue and scholarly exchange under the unifying theme, “South Asian Interconnections: Producing Knowledge through Practice.”

This conference aims to explore the dynamic and multifaceted networks that have historically shaped, and continue to influence, the South Asian region. With an emphasis on interconnectivity, the event will foreground the social, cultural, religious, political, linguistic, and economic threads that weave the region together. Particular attention will be paid to the ways in which knowledge is constructed, circulated, and practiced within and across South Asian societies, both in historical and contemporary contexts.

The organizers welcome original and innovative research contributions from a wide range of disciplines that engage with the complexity of South Asia’s interconnected pasts, presents, and imagined futures. The conference particularly encourages papers that employ interdisciplinary approaches and methodologies, aiming to foster cross-cultural and cross-border academic conversations.

Going along these lines of cooperation and collective status, this conference welcomes panels and papers that combine the approaches and knowledge from many different fields to examine the past and give those other fields a historical perspective. Connecting historical studies to disciplines like economics, demographics, politics, sociology, anthropology, psychology, and others are also welcome.

Prospective participants are invited to submit abstracts of original research that align with the thematic focus of the conference. Abstracts should clearly outline the research question, methodology, theoretical framework, and expected contribution to the field. Submissions will be subject to a rigorous peer-review process to ensure scholarly quality and relevance.

This international academic event promises to offer a rich forum for intellectual engagement and knowledge sharing among scholars dedicated to the study of South Asia.
