The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences was established in 2020. The Faculty shares common history with the University. The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is a multi-disciplinary Faculty of the Nāgānanda International Institute for Buddhist Studies in Sri Lanka catering to students’ needs in the local and the international market-oriented programmes, ranging from Certificate Level to Master’s Degree Level prioritising the national heritage under the four Departments of the Faculty. Under the administration of the Dean, Prof. Prashantha B. Mandawala, the Faculty commenced its academic activities offering subjects such as Anthropology, Applied Archaeology, and Applied Communication and Media Technology to undergraduates.
The Faculty expanded its strength gradually by establishing new departments and offering a wide range of subjects to a larger number of undergraduates. Since the relocation of the Institute at its present premises at Manelwatta, Kelaniya in 2020, the Faculty has the C2 Building as its main centre of operation. The main administrative offices and many of the academic departments and lecture halls of the Faculty are located here. This faculty has made all arrangements to conduct courses ranging from certificate to degree level depending on local and International requirements.
