The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is a multi-disciplinary Faculty of the Nāgānanda International Institute for Buddhist Studies (NIIBS).
The Department of Applied Archaeology is dedicated to providing students with a strong academic foundation and practical expertise in archaeology. Its curriculum integrates theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience, preparing students for careers in heritage management, research, conservation, and cultural resource management (CRM).
The department offers a range of academic programs that cater to different levels of study. The BA (Hons) in Applied Archaeology is a comprehensive undergraduate program that covers modern archaeological methods, heritage management, and scientific applications in archaeology. The Diploma in Cultural Archaeology provides specialized training in archaeological practices and cultural heritage studies, equipping students with essential skills for the field. Additionally, the Advanced Certificate in Cultural Archaeology is a short-term program that introduces fundamental concepts in archaeology and heritage preservation.
A key feature of these programs is the integration of cutting-edge technologies such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing, material analysis, and digital documentation. These advanced tools ensure that graduates are well-versed in contemporary archaeological techniques and can contribute effectively to the study and preservation of cultural heritage.
Beyond classroom learning, the department emphasizes practical training through fieldwork, laboratory research, and interdisciplinary collaboration. This hands-on approach allows students to gain real-world experience, enhancing their ability to analyze, interpret, and preserve archaeological and heritage sites. Through its academic offerings and research initiatives, the Department of Applied Archaeology plays a crucial role in promoting the sustainable preservation and understanding of cultural heritage.
